why swaddle?

This age old technique is used to make your baby feel safe and secure:

  • Swaddling helps to make your baby feel secure and comfortable as it is designed to imitate the security of the enclosed surroundings they experienced in the womb
  • Swaddling helps your baby sleep on their back, the pediatrician recommended sleeping position
  • Swaddling helps your baby stay asleep by reducing sudden arm and leg movements (startle reflexes)
  • Swaddling keeps your baby's face uncovered
  • Swaddling prevents your baby moving around the crib and getting into dangerous or uncomfortable positions
  • Swaddling helps prevent over stimulation
  • Swaddling can help with breastfeeding, as it prevents babies moving around.
  • Swaddling helps keep babies warm (without overheating)
  • Studies are showing that swaddling babies may reduce SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) mainly because swaddled babies sleep better parents are more likely to place baby to sleep on their backs rather than on their fronts, swaddled babies are less likely to roll over in cribs, and swaddling keeps baby’s face uncovered

why muslin?

Muslin is a unique cotton fabric first introduced into England in the late 17th century. Muslin has a light, open weave that allows air to flow seamlessly through the material. The soft natural fibres allow your baby's body temperature to adjust naturally, eliminating over-heating, but ensuring warmth and comfort. aden + anais wraps will allow you to safely swaddle your baby, giving you confidence that your baby will experience a peaceful and secure sleep.

about Aden & Anais

The company was founded by two mothers who moved from Australia to the United States in 1996. In preparation for the arrival of their children, Aden and Anais, they went in search of muslin wraps like the ones they had back home, a staple with Australian mothers. None of the wraps they found on the market in the US were the right size, they were too small to securely swaddle their babies. None of the materials the other wraps used were the same soft, breathable muslin cotton they were used to in Australia. So, they decided to make their own. Everywhere they went people would comment and ask them "where did you get the great wraps from?" Nurses in the hospital, pediatricians, obstetricians, lactation consultants, mothers in their baby groups and their friends all wanted their wraps for their own babies.

We also discovered that the only washcloths they could find were too harsh on their new babies' skin. They decided that muslin would be the ideal fabric to use on the delicate skin of their newborns at bath time, and so they also produced a line of soft cotton towels and muslin washcloths.

As a result
aden + anais was established in 2004.  Their swaddling blankets have proven incredibly popular in the States and Canada, and they’ve become a star-studded brand.  Celebrities who have been spotted using aden + anais baby wraps include Julia Roberts, Nicole Ritchie, Naomi Watts, Naomi & Jason Priestley, Patrick Dempsey, Adam Sandler and more.
